How to Keep up With Blind Tech? Podcasts

Sight Loss is an emotional roller coaster, and I can honestly say that the best way I have processed the journey and keep up with blind tech, is by listening to podcasts.

My first and favourite way to keep up with blind tech

When I first came across RNIB Tech Talk, it was hosted by the one and only Steven Scott, Muttly AKA Shaun Preece and Yogi bear AKA Tim Schwartz, the show quickly became a must listen with its unique mixture of humour, technology, and open conversation about challenges faced by the visually impaired.

Over time the show evolved with the incredible Robin Christopherson MBE joining as a co-host. However, in November 2021, Steven announced his departure from RNIB, resulting in the end of RNIB Tech Talk. The back catalogue is still available on Audioboom.

Cream of the Crop

The fantastic Life After Blindness podcast hosted by Tim Schwartz and is where I heard Steven explain his sight loss journey. As a result of hearing others of a similar age going through the emotions, I realised I was not alone. In addition to the Life After Blindness podcast, Tim has a Life After Blindness website and Facebook page.

For Steven one tech show clearly wasn’t enough, Double Tap Canada arrived a few years. Steven doesn’t like to be lonely, so we have heard Shaun and Tim on the show at various times along with Marc Aflalo who co-presents the Double Tap TV show.

For the last few years Robin Christopherson has been producing the daily 5 minute Dot to Dot podcast, about Amazon Echo skills. More recently, Shaun and Robin started running a podcast called The Echo Show. You guessed it, it is about the Amazon Echo and skills available, but with more indepth reviews and comparisons. If you own an Echo, both shows are a must listen.

On January 10th, 2022, the motley crew will be back with a daily podcast called Blind Guy Talks Tech, as we have already established that Steven doesn’t like to be by himself it is not really a surprise that Shaun, Tim, and Robin will join him.
